Jupiter and Venus cheer up The Moon!

It took a trip to Australia, but Venus and Jupiter managed to make The Moon smile!! Last night in Australian skies, planets Venus and Jupiter hovered just above the crescent Moon creating a smiley face that won't be seen again until 2036!! Some people referred to the event as a big group hug-- awwwww!!!

Apparently in the States and Europe we all got a frown, but I guess that just shows the effect the Land Down Under has on a moody chick like the Moon. If you try to catch it again tonight, you'll get a much looonger face (see diagram below) but it still worth a look. I wish I had known sooner so I could've seen it myself last night, frown and all.

Thanks to toxicangel-moon at DeviantArt for pointing out this stellar phenomenon.

Over and out,
Mother Earth

Aw, I love that! Sadly, here in Seattle, it's been cloudy, and even very foggy, the last few days. No chance of seeing it in our skies. =(

That's an awesome drawing of the trio in a group hug. Kudos to the artist. =)

Here in Bulgaria it was just like a moon from a fairy tale. I didn't see it neither as a smile nor as a frown, but just.. magical in a way!

By the way, they say this is of great importance for the people from Turkey, because it represents their flag - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b4/Flag_of_Turkey.svg

I actually got to see it, but didn't remember what the bright stars were until the next day. My mom and I kept thinking they must have been planets...it was really cool to see. That is one awesome photo. :)
