Ceres on bass....

...and Eris on drums!

You may have noticed that unlike the other Galaxy Girls, Ceres has no symbol. I'd like to say I have some sort of clever reason for that (like Ceres is too much of a non-conformist to follow the crowd,) but really, I just can't think of one. I am open to suggestions---actually, I'm flat out asking for suggestions. Right now I'm considering a leaf, because "Ceres" is the Roman goddess of agriculture, but it doesn't quite fit with her irreverent, "Enid"- type attitude. She seems too urban for leaves. Are there any symbols associated with Indie Rock that I'm just not aware of??? In any case, here are some more finalized pics of Pluto while you ponder!

you're right about the leaf. it doesn't quite match her outlook. i would have proposed a lemon of lime because she looks kind of sour and will match her eyes, but since Uranus has an apple, i think it's not a very good idea. hmm.. thinking thinking :) wishing you inspiration and if i think of something i'll write!
I'm thinking of something that could have something to do with 'underground' as Indie Rock is largely an underground music. So possibly something along those lines (also would work with her namesake)
I like the idea of a black rose, but that seems too dark in a way.
Or, maybe something assosiated with the UK? As Indie Rock was largely started there.
But, I think I'm rambling a bit. I'm more writing what comes to mind. Looking forward to what you pick for her!
Awesome new bandmates! Very cool Pluto poses, too, but you knew that.
Get that McCracken guy to update the other blog; He's slacking! :)
Jackie- oooooooooh! I like the "underground" idea!! It's real conceptual and kind of cynical, which I think Ceres would dig (ha ha. Get it? Dig? Underground? Um, nevermind...) Hmmmmm, what things are underground??? Dead leaves, dirt, worms (I kinda like that one,) mine shafts, rocks, minerals, dead bodies. Gotta keep thinkin' on that one. Thanks!!!
Chris! - Glad you like! I'll bug Craig more about the blog, but he's putting his time priorities on the show, so I guess that's best. Although the blog's gettin' spammed real bad.
Everybody go harass Chris to draw me some cool satellites and stuff!!!!
Sweeeet!
This is one of the more interesting additions you've made to the Galaxy Girls idea Lauren. Gotta say that. We all loved the idea of Pluto being in some sort of angry band, and you made it happen!
Design work is cool as always. You can really see all of your PPG working style coming to the forefront in the later design. Now look what you've done making me feel all nostalgic!
One little suggestion though. Instead of calling them The Dwarf planets (which might sound kind of to cluttered)I recommend something like "Pluto and the Dwarfs." Even simply calling them "The Dwarfs" might work. Not only does it sound like an off the wall band but it comes across in a way that the common folk might scratch their heads for a bit before "getting it" when they realize what the charecters are named. That seems perfectly in charecter for the out of the box personality you seem to have in mind for Pluto.
Just a suggestion though take it or leave it.

how about a shovel, so that she could dig (it'll be so underground). or a lightbulb, as underground is very dark? :) Ceres looks kind of nerdy, you know. you may have a thought in that direction as well.
apart from that here are some facts and things that might help you.
Ceres was also the goddes of motherly love.
her symbol is a sickle. here it is: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/Ceres_symbol.svg
it looks like Venus' symbol, though.
at first it was called Ceres Ferdinandea after both the Roman goddes and King Ferdinand III of Sicily.
the planet was also called Hera for a short time in Germany. Hera is from the Greek mytholody, but her equivalent in the Roman mytholody was Juno. here it gets complicated and i think that's enough.
and one more thing: The chemical element cerium (atomic number 58)was named after Ceres. the element is connected to the earth (it's from the group rare earth metals, though it's not rare at all). and cerium is used for lighting, so my 'lightbulb' guess is not so unsubstantiated :)
that's it. wish you luck in choosing the name!
spj- I've actually thought of that before-- funny how themes spark the same ideas in different people. Unfortunately, "The Dwarves" are already a band. So copyright and trademark issues kinda kill that. Have you ever noticed how in recent years titles have gotten longer and longer or more and more like gibberish (yahoo, google, etc....)? Yeah, it's all about copyright law. I think I'm gonna stick with Pluto and the Dwarf Planets-- Dwarf Planets is a new-enough term to grab hold of before somebody else does, and I still want Pluto to be at the fore-front, since Pluto still is so well-known. Hey, it's not that much longer than Prince and the Revolution or Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, is it?? And like "Foster's" it will probably just be shortened when refernced anyway.
pav--a shovel, iiiinterestiiiiing... I will add that to the list. I think this "underground" theme is the way to go. Keep up with the suggestions!!
I've been waiting to post until I thought of a clever logo, no luck. I love 'em anyway!
